ACL 2026 Recap: What Worked, What Didn't, and What to Change Next Year
ACL 2026 turned 25 and spent the first weekend in the mud. Here is our ACL 2026 recap: the sets people are still talking about, what the rain did to the schedule, and the lessons worth stealing before next October. If you are already wondering about ACL 2027 presale, the reminder tip is at the bottom.
The weather was the headline
Nearly two inches of rain hit Austin during opening weekend, and Zilker's Great Lawn paid for it. A flood watch went up on Friday. Saturday's gates opened two hours late while crews vacuumed standing water and treated the soil. Some sets started late and some got trimmed, and Young Miko's Saturday set was cut short because of the delay. Anyone in regular sneakers had a long day. Rain boots were the right call.
Best sets of ACL Fest 2026
Skrillex on Friday at the T-Mobile stage was the set most reviewers pointed to first, running from classic growling dubstep into newer bass and closing on a run of his biggest hits. Lorde got the nod for the best non-electronic set, emotional and locked in. Charli xcx closed the American Express stage the same night and brought Troye Sivan out as a guest. Suki Waterhouse drew one of the biggest Saturday crowds with a horn section and a disco-ball heart onstage. Parcels closed Sunday evening with disco-funk that held up fine after a wet weekend.
The smaller sets that beat their time slots
The best ACL fest review advice is to look at the afternoon. CMAT played a flirty, danceable Friday set on the American Express stage. Paris Paloma and Amyl and the Sniffers made Friday afternoon worth showing up early. Leon Thomas switched between guitar and drums and sang it all live. Dallas collective Cure for Paranoia won over a Saturday crowd, and Austin band Flight By Nothing, added late, made a strong Sunday debut before heading out on a national tour. Steve Aoki tossed ten cakes into the crowd, all from Sugar Mama's Bakeshop here in town.
What did not work
Crowd management at the Snapchat stage was rough. The Chainsmokers drew a crowd so packed that people could barely lift a phone to film. When the biggest names land on the middle lawn stages, the walkways between them choke. The late gate on Saturday also meant fans who planned around early sets lost them, with no good fix on a muddy field. If you tried to see everything, you probably saw less than you hoped.
Lessons for ACL 2027
Plan around the weather, not the lineup. Pack boots and a poncho for both weekends and check the forecast the night before, because gate times can move. Pick two or three must-see sets a day and treat the rest as bonus. Walk toward the quieter stages when a headliner is peaking, since BeatBox across Barton Springs Road and the covered Tito's tent stayed far more comfortable than the Great Lawn. Eat before you go in and plan to leave before the final set lets out if you want an easy rideshare.
When ACL 2027 presale usually drops
We do not have an official ACL 2027 presale date yet. In recent years the festival has put early passes on sale not long after the second weekend wraps, often within days to a few weeks, sometimes before any lineup is out. Set a reminder for the next two weeks and sign up for the ACL Fest email list so the first link lands in your inbox. Prices tend to go up in tiers, so early buyers pay the least.
💡 ATX Weekly Tip: Save this recap to your list in the ATX Weekly app and turn on event alerts for Zilker Park. We will flag the 2027 presale the day it goes live, along with the late night aftershows around town.
