Austin Weekend Guide: April 4-5

Austin Weekend Guide: April 4-5

April in Austin hits different. The weather is good, the patios are full, and there's no shortage of things to do if you know where to look. Here's how to spend your weekend without overthinking it.

Saturday Morning: SFC Farmers Market at Sunset Valley

The SFC Farmers Market at Sunset Valley (on Brodie Lane, just south of 290 W) runs Saturday mornings from 9am to 1pm year-round. This is one of the better ones in the city — not too crowded, good mix of produce and prepared food, and free parking. Pick up a breakfast taco from one of the vendors and walk around before the heat kicks in. Get there before 10:30 if you want first pick of the strawberries.

Brunch Worth the Wait: Lenoir

Lenoir on South Congress does a weekend brunch that leans into whatever's fresh that week. The menu changes constantly, but the wood-fired egg dishes and seasonal salads are almost always on it. Expect a 20-30 minute wait on Saturday around 11am. Sit outside under the trees if you can. The whole bill usually runs $25-35 per person with coffee. Cash or card, no reservations for brunch.

Live Music This Weekend

Friday night on Red River is always a safe bet. Mohawk has outdoor stage shows most Fridays starting around 9pm, and you can usually catch something decent at Elysium next door for $10 or under at the door. For Saturday, The Parish on 6th Street books solid touring acts — check their calendar this week for whatever's on, doors typically open at 8pm. If you want something more low-key, Continental Club on South Congress has live music every night and never charges more than $10 cover.

Sunday Chill: Barton Springs Pool

April is the sweet spot for Barton Springs before the summer crowds take over. The water stays around 68 degrees year-round, which sounds cold but feels great in the afternoon heat. Entry is $3 for city residents, $5 for non-residents. Get there by noon if you want a good spot on the grass. Bring a book, bring snacks, and plan to stay longer than you meant to.

Local Hidden Gem: Radio Coffee and Beer

Radio Coffee on South Congress is one of those places that most people drive past without stopping. It's a big outdoor lot with a coffee counter, a beer trailer, food trucks, and a stage in the back. They host acoustic sets on weekend afternoons that are free and genuinely good. Good spot for a Saturday afternoon beer around 3-4pm when things quiet down between morning and evening crowds. Dogs welcome, kids welcome, no cover.
