Austin Weekend Guide: June 27-28

Austin Weekend Guide: June 27-28

It's hot, it's June, and Austin has no shortage of things going on this weekend. From a solid farmers market Saturday morning to live music running late into the night, here's what's worth your time June 27-28.

Saturday Morning Pick

Barton Creek Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9am to 1pm in the Barton Creek Square Mall parking lot. Vendors bring local eggs, honey, seasonal produce, and fresh baked goods. Go before 10am while the temperature is still manageable. If you're staying closer to South Congress, the SoCo Select Farmers & Makers Market sets up at South Congress and Monroe starting at 11am and runs until 5pm.

Brunch Worth the Wait

June's All Day on South Congress gets busy fast on weekends. The pastry program is good, the coffee is solid, and the space has a relaxed corner-cafe feel that a lot of the newer spots on that strip don't. Get there around 10am or plan on waiting. If you want something more Tex-Mex, Joann's Fine Foods at the Austin Motel has a shaded patio and a palapa bar. Order the migas. It's a more low-key vibe than the current South Congress scene and the food is consistent.

Live Music This Weekend

Jinjer plays Emo's Austin on Saturday night. They're a Ukrainian metal band with a serious live reputation, so expect a sold-out floor and a crowd that came to actually watch. Check Emo's for door times. Over on 6th Street, Girl Guitar takes Antone's Nightclub at 8pm Saturday. Antone's is one of Austin's original blues venues and it holds up. For a later night on the electronic side, Shiba San B Side plays the Concourse Project in East Austin. Concourse is an outdoor warehouse venue that does late nights well, typically running past midnight.

Sunday Chill

Barton Springs Pool is the obvious call this Sunday. It's $9 for adults to get in, the water holds around 68 degrees year-round, and after a Saturday night out it's exactly what you need. Open 5am to 10pm daily. The surrounding Zilker Park is free and you can park and wander the trails if you just want shade and grass.

Local Hidden Gem

Garage is a cocktail bar on Second Street downtown that most visitors walk right past because it's literally inside a parking garage. Low-key midcentury interior, cocktails that are actually well made, and prices that haven't gone full Downtown Austin. Opens at 5pm most nights. If your experience of downtown Austin is mostly Rainey Street, this is a good change of pace.

💡 ATX Weekly Tip: Open the ATX Weekly app and tap the Live Music filter under Events. It pulls shows from across the city updated daily, so you can find something last minute Saturday night without scrolling three different apps.
