Austin Weekend Guide: May 30-31

Austin Weekend Guide: May 30-31

May is wrapping up and Austin is in full swing. Hot days, packed patios, and a solid music lineup make this a weekend worth getting outside. Here's what's actually worth your time.

Saturday Morning Pick

The Barton Creek Farmers Market runs every Saturday 9am to 1pm at 2901 S Capital of Texas Hwy, in the parking lot behind Barton Creek Square Mall. It's one of the oldest markets in the city and it still delivers. Local vendors bring fresh bread, farm cheese, seasonal produce, and right now you'll start seeing early Fredericksburg peaches hit the stalls. The view of the downtown skyline from the back of the lot is genuinely good. Get there before 10am if you want the best selection and actual parking.

Brunch Worth the Wait

Day Maker, tucked into a converted IHOP near Zilker Park, is the move if you want a leisurely morning before spending the afternoon outdoors. The menu leans fresh and seasonal, the vibe is relaxed, and the location is walking distance from the park. Expect a wait of 45 minutes to an hour on Saturday morning. Go early or late, the 10am to noon window is peak chaos. If you want something quicker and more Austin-classic, Tamale House on Airport Blvd has been running since 1958. Order the migas. They're as good as people say they are and you'll be in and out faster than anywhere else.

Live Music This Weekend

The Kid LAROI plays Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater on Saturday, May 30. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7:30pm. Tommy Richman is opening. Tickets start at $92 for general admission through Ticketmaster and SeatGeek. Stubb's outdoor stage is one of the best setups in the country for a show this size, and the weather Saturday night should cooperate. If that's not your style, Yungblud is playing East Side Performing Arts this weekend, with tickets from around $21. For something smaller and more local, Continental Club on South Congress has live music every night starting around 10pm. No tickets required, just a cover at the door, and the acts are usually better than you expect.

Sunday Chill

Head to Mueller for the Texas Farmers' Market on Sunday morning, 10am to 2pm. It sits right on Mueller Lake Park and there's a solid food truck section alongside produce, local meats, and baked goods. After that, Barton Springs Pool is $5 for adults and the water stays around 68 degrees year-round. That's cool enough to actually feel like relief after a few days in the heat. Lifeguard hours run 8am to 8pm on Sundays.

Local Hidden Gem

Carousel Lounge on Manor Road doesn't get enough attention outside of people who've been going there for years. It's a tiny bar with a vintage circus theme, cheap drinks, and rotating live music most nights. The crowd skews locals, not tourists, and it has that rare quality of feeling like it belongs to a different era of Austin. Friday and Saturday nights typically have bands starting around 9pm, no cover most nights. It's at 1110 E 52nd St. The kind of place you bring someone visiting and they immediately understand what people mean when they talk about old Austin.

💡 ATX Weekly Tip: The ATX Weekly app's Live Music section has a running list of weekend shows sorted by venue, price, and genre. If you're trying to decide between a few options on Friday or Saturday night, that's the fastest way to compare what's on and what's sold out.
