Tacos, two-step, and a new restaurant worth the drive.

Tacos, two-step, and a new restaurant worth the drive.

It finally stopped raining long enough for a proper weekend. I spent Wednesday night at a dive bar on East 6th talking to a bartender who's worked there since 2003 — he's watched three condos go up across the street — and I came home convinced that what Austin still has, more than any city I've lived in, is weekends that feel earned. Here's what we'd actually do if we were you.

The marquee

Bryce Gilmore's new project, walk-in only, eight seats at the bar. Read our Spring Openings rundown for the full list.

From the archive

If you're new to town or hosting visitors this weekend, our first-weekend guide for transplants is the piece to send them. Forty-eight hours, no filler, no Sixth Street trap loops.

That's the week. Tell a friend who just moved to town. Forward this to the one person who always asks you 'what should I do this weekend?' Next Friday, same time. — The ATX Weekly Editors
