Welcome to Sundays. Psych Fest closes, Dave Matthews Monday, George Strait Friday and Saturday.

Welcome to the first Sunday Dispatch. The shift to Sundays means each issue is a forecast for the week ahead, not a recap of the weekend behind us. May 10 through 17 has more big-room shows than I expected: Dave Matthews opens the week at Moody on Monday, Antone's runs a tribute and a rock night midweek, and George Strait does back-to-back nights at Moody on Friday and Saturday. Add Austin FC at home Saturday and you've got a stacked week sandwiched between Mother's Day today and the Memorial Day preview that drops here next Sunday. If you've got Mom in town, the brunch picks from last week's issue still apply, plus a few walk-in plays below.

The marquee

  • Tonight, doors 1 PM · $85 day pass
    Austin Psych Fest closing night
Far Out Lounge & Stage, South Austin
Psych Fest wraps Sunday with Thee Sacred Souls headlining, Money Chicha mid-evening, and Adrian Quesada on the decks late. If you skipped the Lips Friday or the Black Angels Saturday, the closer's the most generous lineup and the easiest gate to walk into. Cab to Manchaca and Stassney, walk in from the south, you know the move.
  • Fri & Sat, May 15–16 · Doors 6:30 PM · From $80
George Strait at Moody Center, two nights
    Moody Center, North Austin
King George does Austin twice in 24 hours, Friday and Saturday at Moody, both nights on the new tour. If you only catch one, take Friday: Saturday's Austin FC home match clogs the Q2/Moody parking universe and the lots fill by 6:30. The Cap Metro Red Line drops you a 12-minute walk from Moody if you'd rather skip parking entirely.
  • Sat, May 16 · 7:30 PM · From $35
Austin FC vs. Sporting Kansas City
    Q2 Stadium, North Austin
First home Saturday in three weeks. SKC's been hovering mid-table; Austin's been streakier. Get there an hour before kickoff for the supporters' walk. If you're double-dipping with George Strait at Moody the same night (literally across the same parking-lot universe), build in 30 extra minutes of lot-shuffle.

From the archive

If Mom's still in town this week, our patios guide is the play for a quiet Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. The Mozart's lakeside table seats a reflective four, and the Josephine House courtyard handles a slow coffee-and-pastry morning.

ATX Weekly tip

First Sunday Dispatch tip: Sunday afternoons in Austin are the most underrated time of the week. Most patios are half-empty, kitchens are caught up, and you can walk into rooms that have a 90-minute wait by Friday night. If you've been meaning to try Birdie's, the Suerte brunch room, or the back at Comedor, today is statistically the best shot you'll have all month.

That's the week. We're on Sundays now, and we'll see you here every week with a forward look. Memorial Day preview drops next Sunday at 10am. — The ATX Weekly Editors
