Hot Luck closes tonight, Memorial Day Monday goes quiet, and we pivot to June.

Memorial Day weekend is almost in the books, and the city did its job. Floatopia was the float, Hot Luck Saturday at Wild Onion Ranch held up its end of the brisket-and-bands promise, and the Greek Festival sold out of spanakopita by 2 PM Saturday like it does every year. Tonight closes the festival at Stubb's, Monday is a holiday breather (CapTex Triathlon for the early risers, Echo and the Bunnymen at the Moody Theater for the late ones), and then we pivot. May 25 through May 31 is the calmest stretch of the calendar before June, which gives us room to open pool season properly and queue up the next month. We promised you a June preview, so the headlines are below, and the pool-and-patio guide lands here Wednesday.

Memorial Day Monday is the unofficial open of pool season, and our swim guide ranks the four city pools by line length, water clarity, and walk-up parking odds. Deep Eddy is the no-brainer; the cooler play tomorrow is Bartholomew on the east side, where the lap lanes stay open and the Monday-morning lot rarely fills before noon. Bookmark the guide for the next four months.

Looking ahead

ATX Weekly tip

Two tactical notes for the holiday Monday. First, BBQ lines: Franklin will run four hours by 9 AM, and LeRoy and Lewis is usually the smarter walk-up at lunch (under an hour by 11 if you preorder online). Second, lake parking: Auditorium Shores closes its main lot for the CapTex Triathlon finish until early afternoon, so put a pin on the Mexican American Cultural Center lot instead. It is a five-minute walk to the finish line and almost always open by 10 AM.

That is the bridge week. We close the festival tonight, give Monday a breather, and start pointing at June. The pool-and-patio guide hits Wednesday, and the June dispatch lands here next Sunday. Yours, The ATX Weekly Editors.
