Austin FC is back at Q2 Wednesday, and the week builds around it.

Hot Summer Nights came and went, Red River survived, and now the calendar hands the week to soccer. Austin FC returns from the World Cup break Wednesday night against Seattle at Q2, the first home match since mid-June and the start of the season's second act. The Paramount sends Interstellar off Monday, then follows with Mad Max Fury Road on Tuesday and Hitchcock's Notorious on Wednesday. Singin' in the Rain rolls into its fourth free weekend on the Zilker hillside. The heat peaks Wednesday at 102, so everything below is either after dark, underwater, or aggressively air conditioned.

  The first match at Q2 since the league paused for the World Cup, and the building will be loud for it. A midweek July kickoff means the sun is still up at the whistle, so the east stand is the shady side worth paying for. Seattle is always a measuring-stick opponent, and five weeks of rust on both sides should make for a strange, open game.

  Interstellar plays its final night Monday after a full week on the Congress Avenue screen. Tuesday brings Mad Max Fury Road, which belongs on the biggest screen in town, and Wednesday is Notorious, the second Hitchcock of the summer series. Three different reasons to be in a cold 1915 movie palace while it is 100 degrees outside.

  Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater, Zilker Park
  Past the halfway mark of the run, which is when the hillside crowds thin and the cast is at its loosest. Four more weekends after this one, but July nights on the hillside cool off faster than August ones will. Blankets by 7:30 still gets you good sightlines.

ATX Weekly tip

For Wednesday's match, skip the Q2 parking scramble and take the CapMetro Red Line to McKalla Station, which drops you at the stadium's doorstep. Trains run extra service on match nights and the ride back downtown beats the Burnet Road crawl by half an hour. If you insist on driving, the lots north of Braker clear faster than anything off McKalla Place. Gates open at 6, and in this heat the concourse water stations are your friend.
