Club América at Q2, the last night on the hillside, and Dallas on Sunday.

Club América at Q2, the last night on the hillside, and Dallas on Sunday.

This is the busiest stretch Q2 Stadium has had all year. Club América, the most decorated club in Mexico and the one that travels the best, comes to McKalla on Thursday, and three days later Austin FC hosts FC Dallas in a Copa Tejas match that got moved to Sunday night for national television. In between, Singin' in the Rain plays its final three nights on the Zilker hillside after seven weekends, and the Long Center closes out its free Thursday concert series on the same evening América kicks off. The Paramount answers with Ferris Bueller on Friday and a Coco-and-Thief double on Sunday. Highs stay in the upper 90s, so everything below still assumes you are leaving the house after six.

The marquee

  • Thu Aug 13, 7:30 PM · From $75
Austin FC vs Club América, Leagues Cup
    Q2 Stadium, 10414 McKalla Pl
The third and last Liga MX visit of the month, and the one people have been holding tickets for since the draw. América brings the largest traveling support in Mexican football, which means the away end will be loud and the concourse will feel like a different stadium. Get there for warmups; the atmosphere peaks about twenty minutes before kickoff.
  • Thu Aug 13 to Sat Aug 15, 8:15 PM · Free
Zilker Summer Musical: Singin' in the Rain, closing weekend
Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater, Zilker Park
Seven weekends, no ticket, and now three nights left. Closing weekend always pulls the biggest hillside crowds of the summer, so Thursday is the civilized option and Saturday is the one with the atmosphere. Blankets go down by 6:30 either way.
  • Sun Aug 16, 7:30 PM · From $30
Austin FC vs FC Dallas, Copa Tejas
    Q2 Stadium, 10414 McKalla Pl
Originally a Saturday match, moved to Sunday night for the Apple TV national window. The Dallas fixture is the one that decides the Copa Tejas argument for the year, and it lands four days after América, so the squad rotation will be worth watching. Cheapest big match of the week by a wide margin.

  • 8:00 PM · From $30

Match two of the Q2 triple. A Sunday night kickoff in August is the most comfortable seat you will get at this stadium until October.

  • Nightly, 9:30 PM · $10 or less
    Jazz at the Elephant Room
    315 Congress Ave, Downtown
The basement weeknight sets are the underrated version. Cooler, emptier, same players.

    Barton Springs free hours
    Zilker Park
No lifeguard, no gate fee, and a pool to yourself before work. The 9 to 10 PM window is free too.

  • Fri Aug 14, evening · $15

  • Fri Aug 14, 9:00 PM · No cover
Friday honky tonk at the White Horse
    500 Comal St
Three bands, no cover, and a taco window out back that stays open later than you will.

The last performance of the 2026 run. Expect the biggest hillside crowd of the summer and plan the arrival accordingly.
  • Sat Aug 15, matinee and evening · $15
    Paramount Summer Classic Film Series
    713 Congress Ave
The Saturday double is the value play if the afternoon heat has already won.
  • Sat Aug 15, 10:00 PM · $15
Late set at the Continental Club
    1315 S Congress Ave
The 10 PM slot is where the residencies live. Cash for the door speeds things up.
  • Open until 10:00 PM · $5

    Zilker Park

Next Sunday

  • Sun Aug 16, 7:30 PM · From $30

    Q2 Stadium
Sunday Night Soccer on Apple TV, which means a national audience and a stadium that knows it. See the marquee.
  • Sun Aug 16, 3:30 PM and 7:00 PM · $15
Coco and Thief at the Paramount
    713 Congress Ave
A family matinee and a Michael Mann heist picture on the same day, which is the whole appeal of this series. Do both if you are skipping the match.

What we're drinking this week

  • · $9
    Ranch water
    Nickel City, 1133 E 11th St
Three ingredients, no ceremony, and the only thing that holds up on an East 11th patio in August. The bar snack menu runs late, which matters after a 10 PM set.
  • · $12
    Frozen cocktail at Whisler's
    1816 E 6th St
The frozen machine is the reason to walk in and the mezcal list upstairs is the reason to stay. Get there before nine on a weekend or accept standing.
  • · $6
    Pearl-Snap Pils
    Austin Beerworks, 3009 Industrial Terrace
A clean German-style pilsner ten minutes from Q2, which makes it the correct pre-match stop on Thursday. The taproom empties out right around kickoff.

From the archive

Three nights left on the hillside, and the difference between a good closing weekend and a frustrating one is almost entirely logistics. Our Zilker Summer Musical guide covers where to park when the Barton Springs Road lots fill, how early the blanket line actually forms, and what to bring when the show runs past ten.

ATX Weekly tip

Thursday stacks the América match and the Zilker closing weekend opener within two miles of each other, and both let out around the same time. If you are going to the hillside, skip the Barton Springs Road lots entirely and park on the Rollingwood side near the Zilker Botanical Garden, then walk in from the west; it adds eight minutes on foot and saves you thirty in the exit line. For Q2, the Red Line to McKalla Station is $3.50 round trip against $30 to park, and on a sellout night the difference in getting out is closer to an hour than a few minutes.

Three home matches in eight days, a musical closing after seven weekends, and a film series that refuses to quit. August is doing more than it has to. Hydrate, take the train, and we will see you on the north end. — The ATX Weekly Editors
