ACL Weekend Two arrives Friday, and Kacey Musgraves makes midweek worth leaving the house.

Weekend One wraps at Zilker tonight, and the park gets about forty-eight hours of rest before the whole thing starts again on Friday. Between now and then the city has a surprisingly good week of its own, with Sara Bareilles at Bass Concert Hall on Tuesday and Kacey Musgraves at Moody Center on Wednesday. We lined up the festival's second weekend, a few small rooms for anyone who wants live music without a wristband, and the fall events out past the city limits that start this week. Read the food guide if you are heading back to Zilker, it will save you some money.

The marquee

  • Fri Oct 9 through Sun Oct 11 · Tickets via aclfestival.com
    ACL Fest, Weekend Two
Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs Rd
Charli xcx plays Friday at 8:40 PM and Lorde plays Saturday at 8:15 PM, with Parcels on Sunday. Weekend Two is usually a little looser than the first, with crowds who have already worked out which stages to skip. Pick your three acts, map the water stations, and leave the car at home.
  • Wed Oct 7, 7:30 PM · From $114
    Kacey Musgraves
Moody Center, 2001 Robert Dedman Dr
A Texas songwriter in the biggest indoor room in town, on the one night this week the festival is not competing for her audience. Moody Center sounds good from the upper bowl, so do not feel bad about the cheaper seats.
  • Tue Oct 6, 8:00 PM · From $121
Sara Bareilles: The Good Grief Tour
Bass Concert Hall, 2350 Robert Dedman Dr
Bass Concert Hall is a proper seated theater, which suits a piano-and-voice night better than a festival field ever could. It is the quiet counterweight to the loudest week of the year.

ATX Weekly tip

Weekend Two has one advantage over Weekend One, which is that you have already seen the lines. Get to Zilker before the opening acts, walk in from the Barton Springs side, and leave twenty minutes before the final headliner ends if you do not want to wait an hour for a ride. Set rideshare pickup a few blocks out, never at the gate.

One more weekend of Zilker, a good week of seated shows before it, and fall events out in the hills for anyone who wants a quieter October. Go early, pack water, and we will see you out there. — The ATX Weekly Editors
