Rainey Street

Old bungalows turned bars next to the lake.

The Vibe

What it feels like.

A half-mile of 1930s bungalows converted into bars, stacked against downtown towers and the lake. Backyard patios, food trucks, string lights, no velvet ropes — party energy without the Dirty Sixth chaos.

It's all walkable in ten minutes. The skill is picking your rooms: rowdy up front, quieter as you drift toward the back porches.

Eat + Drink

Where to eat and drink.

The picks we actually send friends to.

Beer garden

Banger's

The group starter spot. 100+ taps, house-made sausages, a huge shaded yard, and dogs everywhere.

Cocktails

Half Step

The neighborhood's serious cocktail bar in a dim, handsome bungalow. Hand-cut ice, big patio out back.

Brewery

Stay Put

Rainey's only brewery — house beers on a wraparound patio under a heritage pecan. The happy-hour move.

Speakeasy

Augustine

Moody, whiskey-forward, and a deliberate breather from the louder end of the street.

Hang

Lucille

Remodeled bungalow with hammocks out back and a dog-friendly yard. Daily happy hour.

Weird fun

Rainey House

Intergalactic-disco energy, fun cocktails, good patio. Exactly as silly as it sounds.

Things To Do

Beyond the table.

Outdoors

Lady Bird Lake trail

The boardwalk section of the hike-and-bike trail is two minutes away — best skyline view in the city, especially at dusk.

Culture

Emma S. Barrientos MACC

The Mexican American Cultural Center anchors the south end of the street with exhibits and events.

Refuel

Food truck lots

Trucks cluster between the bars — the unofficial dinner plan for the whole district.

Live Music + Nightlife

After dark.

On the street

Patio sets + DJs

Most bungalows run DJs or acoustic sets on weekends — follow your ears, cover-free.

Dance floor

Unbarlievable

Circus-colored, packed, and reliably the street's dance floor. Big patio when you need air.

The Local Tip

Weekday Rainey is the real Rainey

Tuesday through Thursday, 5 to 9: Stay Put happy hour under the pecan tree, Half Step for one proper cocktail, then the boardwalk for the skyline. Weekend crowds never see this version.
